Pentagon Halts Obama’s Transgender Endorsement Plan
A new poll shows Secretary of Defense’s decision on transgender soldiers is very popular.
The Secretary of Defense has suspended Obama’s push to recruit transgender soldiers. According to a recent poll by Rasmussen Reports, 2/3 of all swing voters agree that the Pentagon should end their plans to accept transgender citizens who are living as people of the opposite sex. Defense Secretary James Mattis explains his July 30th decision:
Since becoming the Secretary of Defense, I have emphasized that the Department of Defense must measure each policy decision against one critical standard: will the decision affect the readiness and lethality of the force? Put another way, how will the decision affect the ability of America’s military to defend the nation? It is against this standard that I provide the following guidance on the way forward in accessing transgender individuals into the military Services.
By creating a six-month delay, opponents to the pro-transgender policy will have more time to gather themselves and put up a fight. During his final hours in office, Obama misused his presidential powers to push institutions to support transgender activists. According to these activists,
…a person’s sex is determined by their “gender identity,” not their male-or-female body. In turn, the advocates demand that the federal government force Americans to accept the sex-switching “gender identity” claims made by each person, regardless of scientific data about genetics, biology and the variety of normal behavior and appearances shown by normal women and men.
When news of Mattis’ decision to postpone made it to transgender activists, they were furious that Obama’s directive had been crushed so quickly.
Opposition to the pro-transgender policy is rooted in soldiers’ comfort with sharing quarters and bathrooms with members of the opposite sex. Moreover, the policy would force the United States military to pay for hormones and surgery for soldiers who are trying to pass for the opposite sex.
What is even more ridiculous is that Obama has just released the most famous U.S. transgender from military jail just because she is transgender. While in Iraq, Chelsea Manning was found guilty of illegally copying countless military records and videos and releasing them to the world and was sent to jail.
Reasons such as these are why Mattis put a hold on the policy and will allow opponents time to struggle against it.
