Another State Is On Board Automatic Voter Registration
Automatic voter registration is the wave of the future.
Rhode Island is about to become the ninth state to enact automatic voter registration. This new legislation will automatically register eligible voters anytime they interact with the state’s Division of Motor Vehicles. On Friday, the State Senate approved the legislation unanimously and will be signed by Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo shortly. According to Huffpost:
“Automatic voter registration is one of the innovations Rhode Island can and should institute to engage more of the public with the democratic process. It would make participation easier for first-time voters, and help reduce the incidence of would-be voters being turned away at the polls,” state Sen. Gayle Goldin (D), who sponsored the legislation in the Senate, said in a statement. “True democracy depends on encouraging all citizens to vote, and finding ways to eliminate the roadblocks that prevent them from doing so. Automatic registration will help bring Rhode Island closer to that ideal.”
First of all, automatic voter registration prevents the illegal registration of deceased persons. Things like the 2016 Spiels Voter Registration Scandal would be nonexistent, completely impossible. Democrats would be unable to fake votes and skew results.
In addition, this new system will completely prevent the registration and voting of illegal immigrants. During the 2017 election, Hilary received at least 800,000 illegal votes. Although President Trump was victorious in the face of this fraud, illegal votes could lead to unsavory results. Automatic voter registration will prevent this.
Lastly, not only will automatic voter registration prevent illegal votes from occurring, it will weed out lazy democratic voters who don’t care enough to get up and make the effort to register. This will be a huge win for the Republicans, as it has been proven to be the more proactive party.
