Trump: ‘So Much for China Working with Us’ on North Korea
President Trump may be giving up on working with China.
In a tweet this Wednesday morning, President Trump alluded that he may be through trying to work alongside China to slow North Korea’s developing nuclear program. President Trump tweeted,
“Trade between China and North Korea grew almost 40% in the first quarter. So much for China working with us – but we had to give it a try!”
President Trump is scheduled to rendezvous with Chinese President Xi Jinping during the Group of Twenty meeting in Hamburg, Germany this Friday. It is believed that President Trump’s tweet is part of the growing pressure the U.S. has placed on China to control its ally, North Korea.
Allegedly, North Korea just test-launched an intercontinental ballistic missile this Tuesday.According to some experts, the missile could reach Alaska. President Trump knows it’s time to apply pressure.
On Sunday, President Trump brought this matter before Xi while the US Navy spearheaded a freedom navigation operation near a Chinese island in the South China Sea.
According to our National Security Advisor, H.R. McMaster, China could be doing a lot more to help our situation. Via economic pressure, China could greatly reduce the threat of nuclear attack.
Although Trump suggested that he would provide better economic deals with China if they helped the US with their North Korean relations, North Korea has sped up its testing of ballistic missiles since then. Breitbart elaborates,
Referring to Xi, Trump said on April 20, “I actually told him, I said, you’ll make a much better deal on trade if you get rid of this menace or do something about the menace of North Korea, because that’s what it is. It is a menace right now. So we will see what happens.”
